At some point I am planning on supporting myself on amaryllis bulbs and aloe plants. It is a strange dream but it is mine. This dream has come round again because the amaryllis are blooming.
I have had one bulb for over 10 years. I can’t say it has bloomed all 10, but recently I have had better luck with it. I recently repotted it, my other bulbs and separated the babies that have started to grow.
Amaryllis are great and terrible. My mom can’t get them to rebloom so she hates them and gives them to me. You basically have to be terrible to them. I left them outside over the summer, and sometimes remembered to water them. When it turned cold I brought them inside to the darkest corner I had, where I again forgot to water them. They need a dormant period.
Fast forward a couple of weeks and I decided they had been punished enough. I repotted them, put them in a sunny corner, and gave them some water. Tada!
